High Expansion PET Braided Wire Sleeving

MJ FLEX BRS-PET-OE is an OverExpand PET braided wire sleeving created for assemblies where the largest connector is much wider than the finished cable bundle. Its braid geometry opens to provide an enlarged installation diameter, allowing the sleeve to move over plugs, terminals, fittings and uneven transitions before recovering around the cable run. This approach can eliminate connector removal, reduce harness rework and simplify protection of pre-terminated assemblies. Because expansion changes braid angle, surface coverage and installed length, BRS-PET-OE should be selected from both the pass-over diameter and the final bundle diameter rather than from nominal size alone.

  • Why Choose BRS-PET-OE?

    • Clear oversized connectors

The enlarged pass-over capability helps the sleeve travel across plugs and fittings that ordinary expandable braid may not accommodate.

    • Protect pre-terminated assemblies

Installation can be completed after connectors are fitted, reducing the need to depin, reterminate or rebuild the harness.

    • Handle abrupt diameter transitions

The open braid geometry adapts to connector backshells, splices and other local increases in assembly size.

    • Reduce size complexity for variable bundles

A carefully selected OverExpand construction can cover a wider assembly range, potentially simplifying sleeve inventory and installation planning.

    Key Features

    1. Enhanced pass-over expansion

The braid opens widely to negotiate connectors, plugs and other enlarged components.

    2. Recovery around the cable bundle

After passing the obstruction, the sleeve contracts toward the smaller harness diameter for practical cable containment.

    3. Connector-friendly installation

Supports post-termination sleeving without cutting off or removing many fitted components.

    4. PET monofilament construction

Provides lightweight mechanical protection with flexible handling for cable and wire assemblies.

    5. Adaptability to irregular profiles

Follows splices, transitions and moderate bundle changes along the protected route.

    6. Reduced assembly disruption

Helps shorten installation steps where conventional tubing would require connector disassembly.

    7. Project-specific expansion design

Nominal size, pass-over requirement, braid geometry, length and packaging can be reviewed for the application.

    Typical Applications
    Pre-terminated cable assemblies
Passes over installed plugs so protective sleeving can be added without depinning or replacing connectors.
    Automotive and equipment harnesses
Covers wiring with connector backshells, branch joints or local diameter changes that complicate pull-through installation.
    Data and communication cables
Fits over molded ends and interface connectors while protecting the smaller cable section behind them.
    Industrial sensors and control leads
Protects ready-to-install cables fitted with terminals, glands or sensor heads that are wider than the cable bundle.
    Service replacement and retrofit kits
Allows technicians to add or replace braided protection while retaining original cable terminations where installation access permits.

    How to Select

Record two separate dimensions: the largest component the sleeve must pass over and the minimum-to-maximum diameter of the cable section that remains covered. Also measure connector length, sharp shoulders and available installation space. A construction that clears the connector must still recover sufficiently around the final bundle. Expansion increases braid openings and causes longitudinal shortening, so confirm coverage and finished length on an actual assembly or representative gauge. Do not calculate cut length from the relaxed sleeve alone; include installation take-up, routing bends and the required end allowance.

    Customization Available

Expansion profile - Braid geometry can be reviewed against connector-to-bundle diameter ratio.

Nominal size and coverage - Selected to balance pass-over clearance with acceptable installed appearance.

Cut length development - Trial pieces can establish the correct relaxed length for the required installed coverage.

Color and production packaging - Project colors, labeled lengths, reels, bags and assembly kits are available subject to MOQ and confirmation.

    Testing and Compliance

OverExpand describes installation geometry and does not by itself establish flame resistance, UV resistance, temperature class or an automotive approval. RoHS, REACH and other material documentation may be supplied for the confirmed PET construction. Any flammability or environmental statement must be linked to the exact yarn, color and test report. Expansion ratio, installed coverage and length change should be verified using an agreed measurement method and representative connector-and-bundle combination.

    Quality Assurance

Pass-over verification - The agreed construction is checked against a defined connector diameter or customer gauge.

Recovery and coverage check - Sleeve fit is reviewed again on the target cable-bundle range after expansion.

Expansion-path consistency - Production samples are opened through the specified diameter range to identify uneven expansion, snagging or isolated mesh distortion.

Installed-length evaluation - Expansion-related shortening can be checked when finished cut length is project critical.

Shipment release - Material, color, roll or cut length, labels, quantity and packaging are confirmed before dispatch.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    01. How should BRS-PET-OE be sized?
Use both the largest connector diameter and the final cable-bundle diameter. A sleeve selected only for the connector may be too open or loose on the cable.
    02. Will coverage remain the same at maximum expansion?
No. The mesh openings become larger as the braid expands. Evaluate coverage at the actual installed diameter.
    03. Can one size cover several cable diameters?
Potentially, but acceptable recovery, coverage and appearance must be confirmed across the complete range.
    04. Can it be installed over molded connectors?
Often yes, provided the largest connector diameter and shape fall within the verified pass-over capability of the selected construction.
